One thing about excitement… it sure isn't boring!
Excitement is a feeling or situation full of activity, energy and joy. Excitement is contagious!
This week I had the pleasure of spending a day in Boston with my daughter Allie.
We visited my parents and niece along with my grand-niece and nephews!
I learned how excited 7-year-old Andrew and 5-year-old Virginia get over simple things!
During lunch I conducted an interview with the kids:
“Andrew what are you excited about?”
“BASEBALL BASEBALL and More BASEBALL.” “My team is the Angels I love playing baseball with my friends. It’s fun, and I like when my family comes to watch me play.” “When I grow up I want to be a baseball player and make all the bad people in the world good.”
“Andrew what’s the next Big thing?”
“When dad comes home from the air force. He has been gone for 45 days. He comes home on June 15th. I am excited to see him and play baseball with him!”
“Virginia what are you excited about?”
“I am most excited about going to disney, and going on all the rides.” “It would be cool if every airport was like Disneyworld! “And I’m excited because I’ll have another brother soon.”
If Virginia could turn the airport into a Disney atmosphere she will probably be a rich woman!
My question for YOU is…
When was the last time you said “I’m excited?” What were you doing?
Here are a few tips to keep the excitement going:
1. Respect and completely accept yourself for who you are, and don’t take yourself too seriously!
2. Take your challenges as creative opportunities.
3. Switch negative thoughts to positive ones as rapidly as you switch channels on TV!
4. Look at life like a game to play and enjoy!
5. Walk tall, speak out loud, and move about energetically.
Lastly, my most important tip… Act carefree, like a kid on the playground!
As adults, oftentimes we let life get in the way of our excitement. It’s time to make a shift and do something exciting!
What makes ME excited…
Over the years I have attended several business conferences. I enjoy listening to the motivational speakers. At one of the conferences I attended, I was inspired to set a goal for myself. I set an intention that I would speak at this annual conference the following year. Following the event, I joined Toastmasters and completed 10 Speeches in just 10 months and developed my speaking skills. Soon after, I started speaking at civic groups, schools and corporations… including the same annual event that I aspired to speak at. When I speak, not only am I excited, my audience gets excited too!
Be carefree like a child. Take a moment to set an intention, and do something that excites you. Don’t let anyone stop you from reaching your goals. I am EXCITED for you… have fun!
